Chicago Boys Given an Enthusiastic Reception in Chicago

The Seventh Illinois infantry arrived at noon from Camp Meade Pennsylvania. Aside from twenty men with mild typhoid fever the regiment is in good health. They marched through business streets to an enthusiastic welcome before disbanding.

Alger and Shafter Tour Camp Meade Pennsylvania

Generals Alger and Shafter arrived at Camp Meade for a troop review and a brief tour. Alger then headed for Detroit while Shafter traveled to Washington. They rode together in the secretary's private car for an hour, but details of their talk were not disclosed. Shafter dismissed friction with Miles as unfounded and blamed press sensationalism.

Robbery in broad daylight near Trask bridge shocks Du Rand

Walter Crowley, a Du Rand farmer, was robbed of $20 and a gold watch by two masked men in broad daylight near Trask bridge. Crowley identified Emil and Edward Johnson as the attackers after reporting to Durand and Rockford police wired the incident.
