Penwell brothers fined in riot case at Pana
In Pana Illinois on a Saturday trial Orve and Max Penwell sons of V Penwell and Louis Jehle faced charges of inciting the riot on September 28 when negroes and union miners clashed on the main street. The Penwells were fined $20 each plus costs Jehle was freed on dismissal. The Penwells plan to appeal to the circuit court. Meanwhile in Milwaukee seven companies of the Third Wisconsin volunteers were welcomed with a banquet as they traveled through. In Detroit a man registered as J Grantill killed himself in a hotel room as officers attempted to intervene.
