London reports detail battles around Ladysmith including Rietfontein and Glencoe with casualties on both sides. Davitt resigns in protest against the war while Chamberlain defends government policy arguing for clear diplomacy and British interests.

Des Moines Iowa October 26 The death of Mabel Schofield a beautiful young woman found on the Des Moines river bank Sunday night grows more complex. Police detectives and relatives discard self inflicted death theory and now hold murder likely. Dr Garritty says he saw the girl Saturday evening with two young men on a downtown street and identifies the remains as hers. Schofield's brother studied at Highland Park College and most acquaintances were there.
The Jacksonville Times Union reports Napoleon the lead er at the ostrich farm acts as a vigilant sentinel during the night patrolling the enclosure. A trio of local African American residents attempted a raid on the pheasant yard but Napoleon charged with wings spread, injuring one man’s leg.
