New York dispatch reports police nationwide alert for Abraham Schiffer part owner of the Alamosa Colorado bank which closed after $250000 in funds were missing. Schiffer left New York last Thursday for Alamosa and has not been heard from since.
President Roosevelt today directed the attorney general to initiate action in the department of justice over a complaint alleging monopolization of bridges and ferry services across the Mississippi River into St. Louis. The move targets antitrust enforcement to address the alleged restraint on competition and control of river crossings.

Boston October 6 special Republican state convention endorses President Roosevelt's administration and urges Massachusetts congressional delegates to push tariff revision. Lieutenant Governor Curtis Guild Jr. is nominated for governor.
A lounge fire in Liberty street started when a match head broke while lighting a gas jet. Mrs. Julus Bauscher, unaware the lounge was burning, tried to move it and suffered burns to her hands as neighbors helped extinguish the blaze.
A massive Illinois Central passenger train bringing 1,400 passengers from the state fair arrived in Freeport. Twelve coaches carried the crowd, with seats in high demand and standing room in the aisles sought as conductors and crew struggled to manage the jostling travelers. The influx eased on the southbound return, but staff dread a repeat rush.
A team belonging to John Edgebert at William Ascher's stone quarry backed off a twenty foot embankment while hauling stone. The horses toppled into the quarry and, found injured, were shot immediately after the accident.
While workers raised a safe at the BE, W. clothing store two large planks fell striking Jacob Newmiller on the head. He was taken to Dr Torey's office, treated, and is not seriously hurt. He expects to resume work in a few days. Newmiller resides in Orangeville.
