Boston reports a large delegation at the Republican state convention. The platform commends wartime policy on Cuba and the Philippines and urges free government for those regions. Gov. Wolcott and Lieut. Gov. Crane were unanimously renominated.
Washington reports the president’s travel plan begins Monday from Washington and reaches Chicago Tuesday morning. He leaves Chicago the same morning and spends Wednesday in Omaha. He proceeds Thursday to brief stops at Monmouth and Galesburg, then arrives in St. Louis Friday and Chicago Saturday, remaining until Thursday night before returning to Washington.
State superintendent calls on Illinois schools to devote October 19 to Cornwallis surrender anniversary and Lafayette day. The plan aims to rally nationwide school action to raise funds for a monument in Paris honoring General Lafayette.

The attorney general ruled the secretary of state lacks further jurisdiction in the Bacharach versus Wilson contest for the Terth Senatorial district Democratic nomination. After initial filing, county judges of Ogle and Winnebago counties failed to agree, sending the matter back to the secretary who sought AG guidance. The AG said judges must decide and advised placing both names on the official ballot. A Bacharach telegram followed.
Freeport is connected to Dixon by a new metallic circuit opened today by the Central Union Telephone Co. The line runs from Freeport through Polo and Forreston, shortening the distance to Dixon. A direct copper metallic line to Rockford via Mt. Morris and Byron will be completed this week, with a Gallena line to follow within two weeks.
