Canton Ohio October 1 The nation gathers for the unveiling of the Melkinley mausoleum attended by over 40000 people from across the country and foreign officials with President McKinney as lead speaker. The monument holds bronze caskets of the president and his wife and two infant ashes in wall niches. A large military civic parade preceded the arrival of the president at Monument Hill.
The 1901 observance opened with Governor Harris as president and Rev. Dr. Bristol leading prayer. Helen MacWinley unveiled McKinley’s statue as the president praised his life’s work and warned against malice and wealth’s arrogance.
The president spoke with force and read from prepared remarks. He halted the remarks to quiet a volley of applause and urged backing the honest over the dishonest in pursuit of fortune. The crowd responded with applause after his challenge to support integrity.

John Gately of Keokuk Iowa is arrested on the charge of threatening to shoot President Roosevelt. He allegedly made the threat while paying toll at the Mississippi river bridge end. Gately refused to talk to police after his arrest in Keokuk.
The president arrived in Lima at almost 8 p m to a large crowd at the station. He complimented the assemblage and said that after meeting many countrymen nationwide he has concluded the average American is a pretty good fellow.
Mayor Busse endorses the deep waterway project in a letter to President Roosevelt. Two swift motor boats depart Chicago via the drainage canal and Illinois and Mississippi rivers to reach St Louis by Wednesday morning to deliver the message.

Al Luecke has purchased Gerhard Cramer's share of the Cramer saloon. The transfer takes effect this morning and the business will be run by Al Luecke and Dade Cramer, with Cramer's interest retained by Cramer.
