Storm Grips Superior Wisconsin and Lake Huron

A furious storm from seven last night brings a sixty mph hurricane to Superior Wisconsin with four to six foot snow drifts and all public utilities out. In Alpena Michigan a forty eight mph gale hits Lake Huron with shipping accidents reported including the Thompson line steamer City of Holland running aground near Rogers City.

New York Life Official Testifies on Bond Deposits

Treasurer Randolph testified during the insurance investigation that Massachusetts and New York city bonds belonging to New York Life were deposited with the United States government for the First National Bank of New York City during financial stress. New York Life earned $60,000 plus interest from the arrangement.

County Treasurer Elsesser Expires at Red Oak Village

John Elsesser, Stevenson's county treasurer since December 1902, died at his home one mile west of Red Oak after a long illness. A former pioneer teacher, he endured multiple strokes and health decline, with his daughter Mary and son Oscar nearby as his condition worsened. Funeral set for Thursday morning.

He taught in several districts before serving as county treasurer for twelve years and held roles as assessor and school director. Survived by wife Mrs A Barbara Elsesser, children Mary and Oscar, aged father and siblings. funeral Thursday at 9 AM from his home and Red Oak Methodist church. Interment Belleview cemetery.
