Birthday salute to Gen Charles F Robe veteran of Civil War

Brigadier General Charles Frank lin Robe U S A retired born Canastota New York November 23 1941. He trained as a lawyer but never practiced. He served as first lieutenant in the 147th New York during the Civil War and rose to captain. In 1866 he joined the regular army as first lieutenant in the 29th Infantry. Over 35 years he served in the west and elsewhere before retiring in 1903 as brigadier general. Since retirement he has lived in San Diego California among a large colony of retired military officers.
