Bryan sees anti imperialism as rallying cry for Democrats

W J Bryan argues optimistic signals from 1900 state elections. He notes Democratic strength in Maryland and Kentucky, weakness for Republicans in Ohio, and fusion losses in Nebraska. He predicts the next Democratic platform will favor anti imperialism and moves toward bimetallism with Congress to set the ratio.

Wieherd Croker Sees Antiintegration as Democratic Focus

New York on November 18 Richard Croker voiced his view that antiintegrat ionism will be the main plank of the 1900 Democratic platform and that a trust declaration and monetary questions will rise in importance. He avoided naming Bryan or any other 1900 candidate, calling it premature to discuss nominees while praising Bryan as a strong representative of common people.

Kentucky election returns claim for Taylor and Goebel

Louisville report shows Republican chairman Lang claiming a Taylor plurality of 8111 from certified county returns. Official counts from 110 counties show Taylor 27121 to Goebel 20305 with Goebel leading by 2184 net. Eight counties uncanvassed show Taylor leading by 6424 to 138 for Goebel. Temporary injunction blocks railways merger plans in Illinois

In Springfield on November 13 Judge Allen granted a temporary restraint preventing St Louis Belleville and Suburban and St Louis and Belleville Electric Railway firms and several individuals from selling rights or consolidating with the competing line. The suit by Matthew Slush of Mount Clemens seeks a receiver for the suburban line amid claims of improper director changes and looming consolidation into Belleville and St Louis Traction with $1.5 million capital and $1.2 million bonds. Separately the federation led boycott of the Springield Street Railway began, cutting receipts by nearly $100 daily as labor leaders report declines while workers ride less and car owners reroute offerings.

Skeleton Identified as Tobin in Major Fitzpatrick Murder Case

The county coroner in Mound City held an inquest into the June killing of Major Tomas A. Fitzpatrick, keeper of the national cemetery. The remains were identified as Mike Tobin, a former Fitzpatrick employee, found with a gun between the legs and a cord linking the trigger to a foot, with the verdict suggesting death by self-inflicted gunshot. Evidence included shoes, trousers, hair, and the gun, and Tobin had been discharged just before the murder.

Tests on large Sycamore dairy farms examined milk ing by a foot powered air pump and eight suction bulbs around two cows. Pott Urged to Enter Attorney General Race in Illinois

In Chicago a conference of leading Democrats urged County Judge Rufus M. Pott to run for attorney general. The group unanimously supported making him the candidate and he has consented. Separately Springfield editors Charles and George Wageenseller completed a purchase of Charles Jones and W. P. Lindsay’s stake in the Decatur Bulletin and renamed it The Daily Morning News. Long Fight for Life in St Louis Woman Struggles with Insane Husband

Mrs. Ralph Relf of 2886 California Avenue endured a three day confinement and a brutal siege by her husband in their third story flat. Police forced entry after a tenant heard the disturbance and found her weakly resisting as her husband clutched her throat. He was jailed, later hospitalized, and had recently been released from the insane asylum three weeks earlier at her request.

Halloween Raid at Wisconsin Dormitory Takes Center Stage

Madison, Nov 13. About sixty students suspected in a Halloween raid on a young women’s dormitory were summoned before the faculty discipline committee. Dean Birge presides as each student is tried individually, a process aimed at uncovering others while many confess. A social boycott by the women kept many from the charity hall but the dorm event remains a major social highlight with hundreds attending the ball at the gymnasium.
