Elginite claims patent for a water automobile that blends land and water travel. William L. Hynes, of 370 Prairie St Bays, secured a patent June 6 and July 16. The craft uses pneumatic tubes in a low frame to propel the vessel on rivers and lakes, with a 25 by 8½ foot size designed for up to twelve passengers and shallow draft. Hynes envisions daylight tests from St. Paul to St. Louis on the Mississippi and has received inquiries from New York, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Detroit and Buffalo.
Fairfield I a May 9 The Rev Billy Sunday drew a generous free will offering of 3608 15 for his farewell sermon in Fairfield. The campaign total reached 1118 converts as crowds filled the tabernacle daily and arrests ceased amid reports of broad conversions. Sunday praised a swearing free town and noted only one drunken man converted at the night’s end.
In East St. Louis Illinois the Ancient Order of United Workmen and the Degree of Honor closed their twenty fourth session. Salaries for grand lodge officers were reduced about half with figures for the grand master workman 300, grand recorder 250, grand receiver 240. New officers include D M Brothers Chicago grand master workman and others. Degree of Honor elected several officers and memorial services were held. Representatives to the supreme lodge were named from East St. Louis Sterling and Aledo.

Two cows in the Illinois experiment station show starkly different outcomes under identical care and feed. Gold produced 11,590 pounds of milk and 4,905 pounds of butter fat yearly, while Gilt yielded 3,820 pounds of milk and 138 pounds of butter fat. With equal feed, Gold made 1.88 times more butter fat than Gilt. Profit and losses reflect a wide disparity: Gold nets $34.59 while Gilt loses $5.62 after feed costs. Chief Wilber J. William Warner of Great Barrington Massachusetts claims he has not slept for thirty years. At age 60 he remains in apparent good health, baffling local physicians. He never uses alcohol or tobacco, drinks tea by the case, and has a World’s Fair and Philadelphia exposition memory. He served in the Civil War, earned a pension, and shows no interest in marriage or public life.
