The Illinois conference United Evangelical church missionary society met before the annual conference session at Grace church. Bishop Dubs led prayer and W. H. Fouke of Chicago delivered the address praising the society’s debt free status. Salem church won the Sunday school banner for Christmas missions. Officers elected: President W H Fouke, vice president H Moser, secretary Wm Schweiker, treasurer John Stengel. Schweiker named delegate to the board of missions with Stengel as alternate. The rally occurred tonight and the conference opens tomorrow with Lord's supper.
Washington dispatches report trustworthy advices from Cuba to Delegate Quesada indicate the Cuban assembly will dissolve probably Saturday. The move is seen as clearing the way for a pacific adjustment of affairs in Cuba.
Weather forecasts show fair tonight and Friday in Illinois with variable winds. In Thomasville Georgia President McKinley and party enjoyed a tally Ho ride and will travel by train to Tallahassee Florida with possible entertainment by the governor. John Sherman has had a better night and is improving steadily.
In Cincaco on March 23 special reports Albert Griffith known as Young Griff an Australian pugilist was declared insane today by authorities.
Milwaucter Wis March 23 Special The western baseball league did no business this forenoon It is probable that they will adopt a new schedule this afternoon.
In New York dated March 23 a report states bones and part of a skull were recovered from Wind sor hotel ruins. The piece also notes Charles H. Yale presents a mechanical laughing sensation titled The Evil Eye at Grand Opera House next Monday with an electric ballet and many lights. Advance seat sales begin tomorrow at Moogh's.
The Illinois state Senate on Wednesday passed Senator Aspinwall's bill to appropriate $20,000 to cover expenses for dedicating monuments erected to Illinois soldiers on southern battlefields.
Delegates representing every farmers' institute in the district will meet here tomorrow to arrange a series of institutes for next winter.
John Beverly and co defendant Berriger face trial in the circuit court over a transformer theft from Freeport General Electric. The jury includes Ed Currier Henry Murphy James Askey and others. Beverly's fate will be decided this afternoon. A separate verdict was reached in Kochelhoffer v Bar dell, and Malvina Ritzman was granted $25 weekly temporary alimony in Ritzman v Ritzman.
The Chicago Evening Post reports baritone Conrad B. Kimball sang two groups of songs at the Ladies Day Musical at the Athletic club last evening. His voice pleased and he adapted tone to each piece. The Persian Garden from The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam, set by Liza Lehman, is praised as the finest production of the day.
Mrs. Catherine Younger, mother of Freeport mayor James P. Younger, slipped on an icy dooryard this morning and broke her left arm near the wrist. Dr. C. B. Starrett, former Third Illinois surgeon, attends. her advanced age makes the outlook serious.
Rénick Hamilton of West Jefferson Ohio suffered 18 months with a rectal fistula. Doctors warned he would die without a costly operation. He reportedly cured himself using five boxes of Bucklen's Arnica Salve, touted as a sure cure and best salve on earth, 25 cents a box. Sold by Emmert & Burrell, druggists.
Matt Mosher departed for Beloit this morning to assume an important role in the train dispatcher's office. He has long served at the St. Paul depot and is regarded as a capable, industrious young man likely to rise in his field. His Freeport friends extend best wishes for success. Em mert & Burrell.
G W Rand completed plastering the new Johnston and Arthurs theatre in Vicksburg with two helpers in eleven days. He finishes whitening and plans to depart for Freeport Illinois. Rand claims the theatre will rival metropolitan houses once fully finished.
