Mayor C. J. Dittmar announced the appointment of Jack Nolan as a regular officer to begin duties this evening on beat No. 1. Since last October the salaries increase left the force short one officer, forcing a night man to handle two beats. the new officer will establish six regular night beats.

New York March 21 Judge Fitzgerald is expected to appoint a commission in lunacy to examine Harry K. Thaw. Seven alienists signed affidavits stating Thaw suffers paranoia and should not be discharged, with six agreeing he will not recover. One doctor, Dr Kirsch, diverges on recoverability. The affidavits total thirty two pages. The hearing proceeded with Thaw absent and adjourned to tomorrow.
In Pearl City, editor W. W. Buckley of the Pearl City News was found guilty of disorderly conduct by Justice W. F. Goddard after Health Officer J. G. Woker testified Buckley resisted a scarlet fever sign and threatened fumigation. Buckley fined $10 and bonded $1,000 to keep the peace for a year. J. A. Crain appealed to the circuit court for Buckley.
W A Kintzel, longtime cigar dealer in the Martin building by city hall, has rented the former Cronkrite grocery space. After remodeling, he will move in his stock. New fronts will be added at Cronkrite and the interior updated. The Martin building is leased to an out of town firm for a moving picture show.
Announcement from Houston dated March 20 reports the sale of the L. X. ranch of about 200000 acres in the Texas panhandle. The deal, from American Pastoral Company of London, England, is said to be near 1.0 million dollars. The ranch will be divided into farms. The note mentions recent purchases of 15600 to 20000 acres in the same area by investors from Freeport and Stephenson County.
