Matilda Vickers and Edna V Hance granted divorces. C B Hamman and two other Pearl City liquor incumbents plead guilty and are fined 140 dollars plus costs.

Prohibitionists Nominate Township Officers in Freeport

The Prohibitionists of Freeport met at Good Templar hall and nominated candidates for township offices: Assistant Supervisors S. D. Aue and M. Kahl, Town Clerk Will Hineline, Assessor J. F. Warrick, Collector J. J. Aurand, and Commissioner of Highways Samuel Bollinger. Homer Niles, former Stephenson county treasurer, bought a half interest in the Chicago Street fish and meat market of Alex Grier. both men are described as popular and reliable and expected to run a solid business.

Arbor Day Proclaimed for April 21 1899 in Illinois

Governor John R. Tanner designates Arbor Day for Friday April 21 1899 urging general observance across Illinois. Proclamation calls for planting trees shrubs and vines around homes highways and schools to beautify and improve wealth and health of the state and to ensure treeless schoolyards do not exist by century's end.

The Oregon dam near Oregon City suffered a central break on Sunday night as ice and high water moved downstream. Despite a rising fear, the dam withstood the test until late evening when thicker north ice caused piling pressure, tearing out about 200 feet of the center.
