Washington June 16 Special Mr Taylor assistant supervising architect Treasury today chose the Taylor corner site at Chicago and Exchange streets for the new government building. The 120 by 120 foot central lot is 60 feet owned by the Taylor heirs and 30 feet each by J H Gibler and Senator J S Cochran. Asking price 17000. Condemnation of the Kline corner was avoided by selecting Taylor corner.
Secretary Gage approved Supervising Architect Taylor's choice of a Monmouth Illinois site near the post office owned by W H Sexton and Harrison Miller offered for 8950 dollars. Attorney General Griggs to order title check then begin payment and construction preliminaries for the new post office complex across Freeport Elgin Monmouth Joliet Streator.
Illinois shows 260 offices in presidential list, third behind New York and Pennsylvania, with 46.9 percent rise. Lieutenant Governor Northcott head consul of the Modern Woodmen joined about 15,000 members and attendees in Aurora Illinois for the North Central Illinois Woodmen Picnic day. Rallies drew crowds from Joliet Elgin Dixon Naperville Mendota Plainfield Sandwich Batavia Geneva and St Charles as the town showed hunting flags and woodcraft regalia.
A large morning parade with 3,000 Woodmen and numerous Foresters' teams highlighted the event. State Representative Samuel Alschuler and Dr. W A Colledge spoke, and Silver Leaf camp of Elgin won the best Forester drill team prize.
Mantua June 16 Special The war department reports insurgents under Aguinaldo attacked San Fernando and were driven back with heavy losses. Fourteen Americans wounded. Washington June 16 Special Otis cables northern insurgents gathered near San Fernando then struck Gen MacArthur's troops but were repulsed leaving over fifty dead and many wounded. Our casualties were fourteen wounded mostly slight. Preparations for the attack had been underway for days under Aguinaldo's supervision.
