Freeport and La Crosse split doubleheader in drifted afternoon
Freeport and La Crosse played a twin bill with the visitors winning 3 0 in the first game while La Crosse won the nightcap. Darrah pitched well with ten strikeouts but poor run support doomed Freeport as La Crosse took the finale 3 0. Scoring and fielding miscues plagued Freeport, especially in the first game with errors helping La Crosse secure兩 runs.
Pink Hawley Holds Freeport In Park Exhibition
In a rugged game Pink Hawley pitched for La Crosse and finished for Freeport after Baillies was ejected. Treland opened the eighth with a safety, Fisk delivered a run scoring single, and Freeport gathered three earned runs. Hawley, once a top pitcher, showed control but reduced speed, with players at times showing him up. Postgame chatter hinted Hawley could beat most teams in the state outside Chicago if given a month with Freeport.
