Our dry goods department announces a semi annual clearing sale with many lines deeply discounted. Shirt waists and wash goods feature substantial reductions while corsets and abdominal items are offered at markedly lower sale prices. the sale runs through Saturday July 24.

White Satin flour 81.15 per sack. Sardines in oil 8c can. mustard 2 large cans 1l. Oysters 10c can. Dried beef 1 lb for 18c. Cocoanut from factory. Raspberry phosphate big bottle 1c. Elgin condensed milk 10c can. Spices 10c per half pint can. Etc.
The Republican League convention in Detroit opened with Crawford presiding at 11. A plank urging a discriminating duty act for American shipping was sent to national leaders. Woodmanse was thanked for his service. Illinois listed vice presidents including W. A. Rodenberg and J. B. Whitney. Dowling won the secretary post amid a split, while Higgins was elected treasurer. The next gathering was set for Omaha with time left to the national committee. Adjourned.
Mayor E W Brown took 1600 poor children of Rockford to Colman forty five miles east on a special sixteen coach train. The outing featured games and ample refreshments including lemonade and ham sandwiches. Ladies Aid society members, policemen, and four nurses accompanied the group. no accidents occurred.

Rockford Illinois census data released July 14 shows 11 556 residents under 21, up 684 from last year. Among ages seven to fourteen the group numbers 4 121, with 528 not in public schools. First Lutheran tops parochial enrollments at 145, Catholic at 108, Wight district has 1 781 pupils, and only thirteen illiterate children were found.
Chattanooga Tenn July 15 The seventh international convention of the Baptist Young People's Union opened this morning with about 4000 delegates present. The session began with a short song service, President Chapmian delivered the opening address and welcome remarks followed by the response. Dr W H Reed recording secretary announced the standing committees and leaders for each state.
The senate passed Thurston resolution for U S participation in the Paris exposition. Epworth Leaguers at Toronto report delegates to the Epworth League convention overwhelming the city. Principal buildings decorated, city presents a holiday atmosphere as the opening meeting occurs this afternoon.

A trolley party and social was held last evening under Martha Washington Garrison Daughters of the Globe. Despite a cool evening the turnout was good and guests enjoyed music and refreshments at the Knights of the Globe hall until midnight. The event was organized by Mrs. Alice Watson Mrs. Fred Altenbern Mrs. Emma Krape and Mrs. Carolyn Hea.
A well attended social at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Koym on High street, under the Ladies Aid of St. John’s church, offered a music and literary program and refreshments. The beans in the jar contest awarded Fred Hanke first, Chas Koym second, and G A Huenkemeier the booby prize. church orchestra provided music.
Epworth league of the First M E church hosts a lawn sociable Friday evening July 16 at Mrs Huenkemeier’s home on Stephenson street. A short program will be followed by ice cream and cake for ten cents. All are invited.
