In Shannon Illinois on July 7 Mrs M Schauer a well known local resident was badly bruised in a runaway when a horse frightened at a picnic near Mrs James Jones home southwest of town. Her sister and two young children escaped unharmed as the buggy was demolished.

Kinaston July 7 Special Advices from the front via the Associated Press dispatch boats say the American army remains in excellent health with no yellow fever cases and only two deaths among over a thousand wounded at Siboney hospital. General Young of the cavalry division returned to Key West sick. The Resolute carried 500 prisoners to Guantanamo as Spaniards claim Santiago forces were near exhaustion and would have surrendered if land pressure continued. Prisoners estimate Santiago’s strength at about 11,000.

Horse Runs Wild Before Court House Injuring Several

A horse owned by Michael Rigney from near Red Oak escaped at noon today in Stephenson street. It knocked down Mr. Barklow of Pearl City and collided with Wm McElhaney’s buggy injuring Mrs. McElhaney. The animal crashed into a telegraph pole at Koenig's corner, demolishing the buggy before being captured. Barklow was treated by Dr. Burwell and not seriously hurt.
