In Shannon Illinois on July 7 Mrs M Schauer a well known local resident was badly bruised in a runaway when a horse frightened at a picnic near Mrs James Jones home southwest of town. Her sister and two young children escaped unharmed as the buggy was demolished.
The Sixth Illinois Eighth Massachusetts and Sixth Massachusetts brigades depart Camp Alger for Santiago. Massachusetts and Illinois units travel via Charleston aided by Yale and Harvard convoys, while the Eighth Ohio moves via New York aboard the St Paul.

Kinaston July 7 Special Advices from the front via the Associated Press dispatch boats say the American army remains in excellent health with no yellow fever cases and only two deaths among over a thousand wounded at Siboney hospital. General Young of the cavalry division returned to Key West sick. The Resolute carried 500 prisoners to Guantanamo as Spaniards claim Santiago forces were near exhaustion and would have surrendered if land pressure continued. Prisoners estimate Santiago’s strength at about 11,000.
A horse owned by Michael Rigney from near Red Oak escaped at noon today in Stephenson street. It knocked down Mr. Barklow of Pearl City and collided with Wm McElhaney’s buggy injuring Mrs. McElhaney. The animal crashed into a telegraph pole at Koenig's corner, demolishing the buggy before being captured. Barklow was treated by Dr. Burwell and not seriously hurt.
The Harrow Business College will reopen July 11 at 8 a.m. Special rates and attention will be given to public school pupils who failed their grades. Office hours until July 11 are 9 to 10 a.m. and 1 to 2 p.m. daily. Harrow Business Contras, 111 Stephenson St.

Participants spoke little, and the group decided not to storm Santiago immediately, hoping for a swift, less costly victory. Unofficial reports suggest Spain may seek peace this week, though no direct offer has been received.
Washington July 7 Special The war department received Cervera’s report to Blanco detailing the failed attempt to flee from Santiago harbor. He states he sailed out with his squadron, engaged in unequal combat against forces more than triple his, and lost the entire squadron to the enemy’s fire. He notes the crews’ conduct drew the enemy’s praise and that all boats were lost, leaving the crew low in spirits.

Honolulu dispatch notes U S Navy moves with June arrivals and departures. The second fleet transports reached port June 23 and sailed for Manila on June 25. Monitor Monterey and collier Brutus arrived June 24 and sailed June 29. Monterey operated under its own steam until June 18 when Brutus towed it.
Report from Maprio notes rumors that bombardment of Santiago de Cuba has begun with Spanish batteries replying vigorously as ships approach the harbor.
Washington July 7 final adjournment set for 2 o clock tomorrow. The House approved a resolution for final adjournment at that time in a special session brief.
Mapriv dispatch reports a minister speaking after today’s cabinet meeting stating that the Spanish war must go on to avoid accusations of cowardice following the destruction of Cervera's fleet.
