Rockford authorities head toward a council meeting as trustees and teachers threaten to resign over a rejected pay increase. The board urged higher calories for many teachers, a request the council refused at its previous session. Principal Parker and other faculty may depart if the raise is not granted, while the board contemplates resigning if their recommendation is ignored, arguing they know school needs better than aldermen.
In Chicago on July 2 the silver camp grows more aggressive after a harmony filled meeting. They plan to sway doubtful delegates and lure desertions while a large silver caucus at the Columbia theater aims to count noses and tag delegates. Temporary chairman choice narrows to Gov. Stone or Wm. Bryan amid favorable reception of Bryan by allied candidates.
In New York on July 2 a jury in the Hart and associates trial over involvement in the Bermuda fillibustering expedition failed to reach a verdict and was discharged. A new trial is expected to be scheduled.
A special Niagara Central passenger train collided with a Michigan Central freight on a curve at Niagara Falls on July 2. Both trains were wrecked but no one was seriously hurt. The loss is estimated at 100000 dollars.
Partly cloudy tonight and Friday with possible local showers in northern Illinois, fresh southerly winds. An explosion of a locomotive boiler near Hartspell, Birmingham, Alabama, this morning killed three people and badly burned another.
London July 2 Leopold de Rothschilds of St Frusquin won the Princess of Wales stakes a 10000 sovereign race today The victory adds to the owner and stable’s prestige with the mare or progeny named St Frusquin in the winning run and mark in royal racing circles.
July grains and livestock prices listed with bids for July through January contracts. Cattle steady 3.40 to 4.50, hogs receipts 26,000, cattle and sheep quotes vary by class, lambs 3.75 to 6.25, bets for tomorrow include 20,000 hogs and 15,000 sheep.
Emma Ashley, sister of the plaintiff, fired a pistol at E. J. Baldwin in open court. The shot struck the defendant in the head but his wound is not believed fatal. Miss Ashley was arrested and is believed insane.
Herman Schultz 25 of Warren was fatally struck by a westbound freight near Randall crossing three miles west of Warren while cutting weeds beside the railroad. The accident occurred around 1:15 pm. The train pulled through to Apple River with Schultz killed on the fireman’s side. Coroner Heidenrich was notified to hold an inquest. Schultz left a wife and three children, with little local family. Kingsley’s sale postponed to Friday. ad in this issue.

Dr. John Hilton will depart Freeport next Saturday morning for Canada and other eastern points, likely staying about four weeks. He is poorly from overwork and will rest. In his absence Mrs. Hilton is aided by Dr. Benjamin Herrick of Madison, a young dentist who has assisted Dr. Kollock.
Noted Dr Carver arrives in town today and will give a public showing in Chicago on July Fourth setting.
