Thatcher Harris, 58 Carroll Street, badly burned at Orangeville pumping station after a gasoline vapor explosion blew open the power house door. The Freeport to Chicago interurban line completed from Belvidere to Elgin plans through cars to reach Chicago in about four hours. A trial Sunday between Rockford and the Watch Factory City impressed. expect through service from Freeport to Elgin within months. Sub-stations at Garden Prairie Union and Gilberts, headquarters at Murengo, six cars in green and yellow, with more on order. The 36.2 mile route parallels Northwestern, crossing the Kishwaukee river, with a notable sink hole repaired and monitored for future maintenance.

Washington January 13 Special The senate committee on finance voted to report favorably the nominations of Postmaster General Cortelyou for secretary of the treasury and James R Garfield for secretary of the interior indicating strong support for the administration slate.
A major blaze in Chicago partially destroyed the eight story building at 407 429 Dearborn Street housing M. A. Donahue & Co publishers and printers. The early morning fire caused property losses estimated at about half a million dollars. Firefighters battled the flames for hours as alarms spread through the area. No injuries are reported in the brief dispatch.
Publican League in Session. Executive committee of the National League of Republican clubs convenes in Washington on January 15 to prepare preliminary arrangements for opening the 1908 campaign.
Des Moines January 15 Special. C A Carlson driver of the world champion hose team Jack and Jill died from injuries after a collision with a street car. Three companions were seriously injured in the crash.
Mrs. Charles Olin unearthed a large oil painting of Freeport’s first fire engine from Daniel Adamson’s chest and presented it to Chief J F Rodemeyer. The five foot square red and gilt work on blue silk will be mounted and hung at Station No 1L, honoring the 1867 organization of Freeport Company No 1.
Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Wood of Buenos Aires, Argentina, have been staying with Mr. and Mrs. C. McCluhan since last Thursday. Wood, a J. I. Case Threshing Machine representative in Argentina for seven years, will remain in the United States briefly to conduct company business. He is Mrs. McCluhan’s brother.
