Lincoln Neb Jan The twenty sixth biennial session of the Nebraska legislature convened at noon today. The Republicans have a majority of nine on joint ballot with seven in the senate and two in the house. The first ballot for senator will be two weeks hence and the fusionist minority will give solid support to Senator Allen while Republican strength is split among eleven active and passive aspirants.

A oil can spilled on a stove started a coal shaft fire at Carlinville Coal Co. The blaze trapped 100 men, cut power, and left the town without water. The inferno damaged the works, caused large losses, and forced families to seek work elsewhere as authorities consider action against the water company.
