The Wisconsin Railroad Commission orders a flat twenty cent passenger fare for all railways in the state. The ruling, issued in Madison on February 18, sets the new fare as a uniform rate across Wisconsin.

Fine weather brought out large crowds to Embury for Sunday services. The Epworth League featured the league and Sunday school choir, H. A. Whitsett sang a commendable solo, and the evening sermon was titled Lent Its Uses and Abuses.

Robert Daughenbaugh died at his Ridott Township home from tuberculosis. He was 45, a farmer, married to Mary Loeg in Chicago in 1898, with five children, and survived by his wife, siblings, and mother. Funeral set for Wednesday at the Free Methodist church Ridott with Rev. Brooks officiating. The narrative also notes the death of Mrs Susan Reardon and her funeral in Lena Tuesday.
The funeral of Miss Mary Hogan will take place tomorrow at 9 AM from the Hogan home at 62 Spring Street and at 9:30 AM from St Marys church. Interment follows at St Marys cemetery with pallbearers Leo Dubs John Ware Frank Ware Patrick Place Nelson James and Peter Bonu.
Neighbors spotted a blaze at Charles A Miller’s West street residence shortly after 7:30 PM as two lamps burned in the parlor. Firefighters fought intense heat through two rooms and a damaged porch, estimating hundreds in damage to fixtures and a new front. Mrs. Rex Miller fainted at church when told of the fire. A second alarm reported later notes at Henney shops with burning rags found by a watchman.
Henry Brenner was arrested in police court on larceny charges after attempting to collect 5.50 for returning cement sacks. He claimed 659 sacks were returned, but evidence showed 55 sacks were taken from Brubaker’s pile and moved, prompting commitment to jail when he could not post $300 bond. Brenner, a Chicago native, worked as a plasterer in the city last winter.
Excelsior lodge No 97 A F and A M marks its fifty seventh anniversary on Friday night with the fiftieth anniversary of John B Taylor being raised to Master Mason observed and past masters in charge of third degree work. The week’s Masonic calendar includes Evergreen lodge Freeport chapter Freeport Commandery Spring ceremonial of Capernaum Shrine and a district school of instruction at Sterling lasting three days with many Freeport Masons attending.
The Germania society invites members to a card game gathering tomorrow afternoon. The event features social entertainment among members with no admission fee announced.
Miss Elizabeth Barge awoke to learn her nephew William Barge believed Laurence Nye was dead after seeing him drown on Saturday. The bodies of John Hilbert, Laurence Nye, and Ralph Schertner, all Dixon children, were found in Rock River later that day. Fear of whipping kept William Barge and Vernon George from telling, until a dawn confession and police search recovered the three victims.
Six years ago John Pleasant of Magnolia Indiana recalls learning a valuable lesson and says he began taking Dr King's New Life Pills. He reports the longer he takes them the better he feels. The pills are sold at Joseph Emmert's drug store for 25 cents.
A. F. Balles, ice dealer, announces contract with Franz Hros to erect a large artificial ice plant in the city. The plant will produce about thirty tons daily and begin operation by May 1. Natural ice will remain available at thirty five cents per hundred pounds. Orders encouraged and prompt service promised. Telephone number 327.
