Washington February 15 special report says the house passed the conference report on the diplomatic and consular appropriation bill without debate. The Ways and Means Committee postponed the Williams bill for reciprocal coal trade with Canada. Public Lands panel chose leasing coal lands over sale per Roosevelt’s suggestion. Naval panel defeated removing one of two Dreadnaught battleships from the naval appropriation.
A closed door street railway committee meeting with Mayor Dittmar and City Attorney Mitchell discussed improving service from Freeport Railway, Light amp Power. Aldermen and Goddard explored fare refunds for riders forced to walk, new Kendall appointments, restored transfers, and an enhanced ten to fifteen minute schedule to reduce delays on junction routes.
In Farmville the condemned Moses Hill and William Ruffin were hanged for murder. Hill weighed 275 pounds. The rope broke on the first drop and he returned to the scaffold, dying after a second break on the ground.
Philadelphia on February 15 Special. Counsel for the James Dunkap Carpet company announced the firm is temporarily embarrassed with liabilities estimated at 600000 dollars. Assets are expected to be largely in excess of that sum, indicating a substantial but temporary financial strain.
Augusta telegram reports John D. Rockefeller rushed to New York after receiving notice that his wife is dangerously ill. Rockefeller had been in Augusta for a month before departing last night.
Des Moines Feb 15 Special. B E Ellsworth promoter railroad builder and philanthropist died at his home in Iowa Falls today from heart disease. He was 59.
Mrs. Annie M. Bradley was indicted for murder in the first degree for the shooting death of former Senator Arthur M. Brown on December 8. The indictment charges a grave criminal act with a fatal result, reflecting a high-stakes legal case as it proceeds through the courts.
The Standard Oil Company announced a quarterly dividend of 15 cents per share. The declaration was made in New York on February 15, with the news released as a special report.

A city street railway car No 4 was badly damaged after a rear end collision with an interurban passenger car near the switch to the interurban station. The interurban car had just arrived from Rockford and opened the switch. The city car, lacking power from a disengaged trolley, could not stop and struck the other vehicle, smashing the vestibule and causing only minor injuries to passengers. The city car was moved to the repair shop and another car substituted.
The strike at the knitting works ends with all but one returning to work at previous wages. Workers say new Rockford work paid less, manager argues the initial work paid above city wages. Factory now produces 400 dozen socks daily with 65 to 70 workers employed.
