Washington February 2 special Senator Cullom chairman of the foreign relations committee says after a talk with the president there is no chance of going to war with Japan over the so called school question. In St. Petersburg on February 2 a reported plot against the emperor centers on a uniform once belonging to his Cossack escort. Secret police have orders to trace the buyer and detectives will question every tailor in the city after a raid where the garment was captured.

Regular schedule not yet set. connections exist at Rockford and Belvidere. Belvidere to Elgin timing pending.
Freeport's basketball team beat Beloit last night with a 23 point margin as Goddard Luebbing and Leininger starred. Beloit showed strong individual play but weak team cohesion. Freeport’s second team won 86 to 30 and the first team travels to Sycamore then Mt. Carroll next Friday.
An earlier account praised Lew Shull, Northwestern engineer, for bravery on the line. Officials presented him a handsome gold watch. Shull was a former city resident, once employed by Dr. Mills and a classmate of Will su der of Orangeville.

James H. Prescott, nearly 88, died this morning at his niece’s home after a long life in Freeport Maine. Born 1824 near Bristol New Hampshire, he was a musician and band leader, married to Catherine Webster, with two sons and two daughters now deceased. Funeral at 2 PM Monday from Mrs. Julia Stratton’s home with Rev. C W McCaskill officiating. interment in city cemetery. He had managed the Exchange hotel in Polo for 25 years and later lived at the Metropole and Globe hospital in Freeport. Three sisters survive.
An octogenarian, Ee W Lund, died at 2:00 this morning at his daughter Mrs C H Stocks 272 Van Buren Street after a week of cold-related debility. Born May 12, 1810 in Groton NH, he lived in Palmyra and Little Prairie before moving to Scioto Mills then Panola NL and finally to this city. Five living children attend the funeral. burial planned in Palmyra with Rev CLOW officiating.
Mrs John Good, related to Freeport families, died last evening at her residence after a battle with cancer. Friends and relatives in this city were notified of her passing.
