The Ladies Ald society of Em bury church hosts a Calendar social and ancient fair this evening at Em bury church in Wyandotte street. Admission is one and thirty one cents based on birth day. four seasonal booths offer free or 10 cent refreshments and one ticket admits to social, fair, and a free meal ticket. Miss Mayme Meyers hosted her fifteenth birthday with games and prizes, while the Elks mid winter party drew over 100 members and ladies with dancing, a banquet, and festive decorations.
A large crowd attended the Ma chinists union ball at Lexington hall last night with Rotzler’s orchestra. Prizes in card games went to Mrs. Mathew Wilkey Mrs. Martin Kelley Mrs. Frank Rogers Geo W Fatherby R Malone and Fred Backus. St Margaret’s guild hosts a New Year dancing party at Lexington hall with Harris orchestra. Ladies of the guild pledged funds toward Grace church pipe organ and to reduce the debt. Mrs Edward Meise hosted a birthday party at South Galena avenue with about twenty guests and a luncheon. Mrs C Fred Kuehner entertained about fifty ladies at euchre on Stevenson street with souvenirs to Mrs Henry Warner Mrs Charles Frick Mrs Edward Scanlan and Miss Alice Frick.
W. J. Young & Co have moved their stock of books and stationery to more spacious quarters in the city railway waiting room building opposite the German bank. The building has been remodeled and presents an attractive appearance. Mr Young is an expert picture framer and has built a fine business since starting about a year and a half ago.
Fred Kochsmeier son of Mr and Mrs John Kochsmeier left this morning to take a night operator position on the Illinois Central railroad at El Paso He is a Wenthe School of Telegraphy graduate and learned telegraphy in night classes in this city He is regarded as bright and efficient for his new role
The Episcopal Sunday school held a Christmas entertainment at Globe hall last evening. A large Christmas tree stood in the center as Dickens' play Christmas Carol was presented by the scholars in fine style. At the end stockings filled with candy were given to the children.
H A Schroedermeier who ran a clothing store at 133 Stephenson street has sold the stock to John J Davis of Aurora.

Justice Geib ruled in the case L Mowery versus George Renner of Mr Carroll this morning. The colt entrusted to the defendant died from neglect and Mowery was awarded 125 dollars in damages.
