The International Harvester Company of America sent its first ship Katangs from New York to Havre and Dunkirk. The vessel will operate between U.S. ports and a foreign country, enabling the company to move most foreign tonnage itself. A new New Jersey chartered concern controls a foreign business valued around 20 million dollars, with J Pierpont Morgan said to hold about 90 percent of the stock as Harvester expands in Europe and Russia.
In Minneapolis on December 20 a wall from the Peck building on Fifth Street collapsed onto the Crocker hotel next door. Seven occupants were killed as bricks and debris crushed floors and basements while residents slept. Names of the dead include Hans Anderson James Hamilton C M Kenyon William Lillyblade William Semmernon William Braa l and Joseph Violet.
