Shanghai reports armed guards patrolling streets as disturbances threaten looting fears. The US cruiser Baltimore will land forces today while the British cruiser Diadem docks five hundred men ashore. Other warships anticipated.
Three men were killed and seven injured in a dynamite explosion during excavation for a new building opposite the Waldorf Astoria. The blast occurred as workers tried to redrill a partially drilled hole where dynamite sticks had been left, with several victims blown to atoms.
A delegation of railroad officials waited on Gov. Deneen to protest the freight rate reduction proposed by the Railroad and Warehouse commission in Springfield on December 19.
Chicago reports a special weather note for Illinois predicting probable showers on Wednesday with southward drizzle tonight.

The Freeport city council met for under half an hour mainly on routine matters. A petition for an Elk and West streets electric light was referred to lights committee. A lease for a 20 foot lot beside city hall for stone pile purposes was approved at $10 quarterly installments. Meeting adjourned at 8:40 PM.

Banking circles report near normal conditions after runs on the Chicago National and Hattie Savings banks lessen. In Bedford Indiana, Dec 19, a run on the Bedford National Bank led by president John R. Walsh drew only small deposits and was met with offers of help that were declined as unnecessary.
Mrs Bert Stauffer of Shaffer Avenue fell down stairs last evening and was seriously injured. Police and emergency services responded. she was transported to a local hospital for treatment and observation.

Mt Carroll bowling team travels to Freeport this evening to observe, not expecting to win, at the club gymnasium in the old Germania opera house.
William Jung was hurled from the Rockford & Interurban car east of Taylor's park while riding to Ridott. He lay unconscious for hours before help arrived. doctors fear skull fracture and pneumonia due to exposure. Attorney Hayter of Rockford investigates. road officials may settle with Jung or pursue legal action.
