Washington dispatch reports Illinois Senator Maston introducing a Senate resolution directing the agriculture committee to examine German legislation aiming to ban American sausage and meat imports and to report on a bill for inspection of German foods imported. The House adopts a recess resolution. Bailey of Texas probes members’ holding U.S. offices.
President McKinley arrived in Macon at 9 80 amid enthusiastic crowds and reviewed Gen Wilsons command. He spoke on national pride in the army as Generals Wheeler Lawton Wilson and Shafter gave brief remarks. A memorial address from Confederate veterans and a wreath for the Confederate monument followed before the party moved on to Augusta.

Henry Lichtenberger wins first honors with 724 points and also takes top score for the highest single play. Capt. Phil Arno is runner up and secures second honor for the highest play. A five month old Luellen setter pup strayed from Dr Poling’s. The doctor, short on his remaining twenty seven dogs, wishes to recover the young dog and asks finder to return it.
Mrs. Frances Hutton Curtiss wife of Hon George W Curtiss of Stockton died suddenly Saturday evening at 8 o clock of apoplexy while visiting her sister in law Mrs C S Richards 140 West street in Davenport county Her death follows six months of ill health and she leaves husband two sons and two daughters including Miss Sarah Curtiss The funeral is set for Tuesday at 1 30 pm from Mrs Richards home with private burial in the city cemetery Rev Chas E Dunn officiating Pallbearers named. Also noted Christofer Mayer an elder resident died Saturday night at his Empire street home aged about 101 years He was born in 1823 in Wurtemberg Germany immigrated 1845 and lived in Ogle county Florence township and Freeport before coming to Davenport County Funeral will be held tomorrow at 1 pm from the Mayer residence and 2 00 pm at Oak Street Evangelical Church with Rev Alberding officiating.
