Local Camp Reports No Yellow Fever Deaths

Reports from Camp Wikoff Montauk Point deny yellow fever deaths in the camp hospital. Two recent fatalities were reclassified as pernicious malarial fever after review by the surgeons in charge. Manus Aug 30 dispatches note China transport sailing with Gen Merritt to Paris and Gen Otis acting Manila governor. Various officials plan travel as part of ongoing war and postwar activity.

Marengo Garrison Wins Flag Drill Prize in Sycamore

A competitive drill by eminent ladies flag officers ended with the Marengo garrison taking the prize, a fine flag. The Sycamore celebration drew large crowds, with speeches by Rev C C Snyder of Riverside and Judge John C Garver of Rockford amid absence of Senator Mason. Supreme Captain-General W W Krape received compliments for progress of the order he originated.

Sixth Regiment to Return to United States This Week

Washington Aug 30 no official word on the departure of the Sixth Illinois from Porto Rico has reached the war department yet. Transports are in Porto Rican waters to move all troops in General Miles command and the general aims to muster them out quickly. Governor Tanner and officials favor sending the Illinois regiments to Springfield for complete records before disbanding. First cavalry to be mustered out at Fort Sheridan.

Judge Horace W. Taylor Dies in Wisconsin

Judge Horace W. Taylor of Rockford Illinois died suddenly at Pennoyer sanitarium Kenosha Wisconsin from Brights disease and inflammatory rheumatism. He was seventy six, survived by wife Miss Anna Taylor and daughter Mrs. J R Crocker. Funeral in Rockford Planned from Congregational church on Wednesday. He was master in chancery for thirty years and part of Brown and Taylor law firm.
