Reports from Darien Georgia and McIntosh county describe a large armed black group near Delagel swamp threatening clash with whites. Gov. Candler received word of a white militia buildup, with Col Lawton leading 100 men and sheriff’s posse amid calls for surrender or battle. Authorities anticipate a major confrontation as troops prepare and reinforcements move from Brunswick.
At Reyves Aug 26 special, Bertillon resumes handwriting testimony on the bordereau. Labori confronts Major Freystater over Maurel's dossier reading claim, forcing a clash as the colonel insists he read only one document. The exchange draws hisses and disapproval from the audience.
Washington dispatch reports orders directing the 30th volunteers to shift from Fort Sheridan to San Francisco on September 10 and the 82d from Fort Leavenworth on September 20 to sail for Manila as transports become available.

Ellwood Alonzo Ellwood of Sycamore Illinois, former grand master of the Illinois branch of Odd Fellows, died today in Cariaco from meningitis. He was 76 and a brother of the late Congressman Reuben Ellwood.
In Manila on August 26 a special report states four men of the 23d regiment stationed at Cebu were ambushed by natives in the hills. Three were killed while the fourth escaped. Details are missing.

Mary Eva Metzgar aged 78 died last evening at 7 at her daughter's home Mrs Peter Kautenberger after a lingering illness. Born Mary Eva Heitzman in Netterhausen Baden Germany she came to America in 1851 and settled in the city where Londa line Metzgar ran a grocery. Survived by two sons Joseph and Peter and daughter Mrs Peter Kantenberger the funeral will be at 9 am Monday from the house and 9 30 am from St. Joseph church. Also obituary of Mrs M O Brien noting death Friday night at 6 after illnesses since November born Mt Carroll Aug 1 1855 came to Dublin 1867 married M O Brien 1886 later resided in Hleroy then this city. Survives son Francis mother Mrs Bridget Silk five sisters Julia Agnes and Maggie Silk and brother Henry Silk. Funeral at 8 30 am from house and 9 am from St Marys church tomorrow. arrangements by J Younger and wall bearers listed.
A series of minor items notes a St Marys court No 75 meeting tonight, Lena Schwarb returning to Huenkemeier Schwarze grocery after a three week illness, Dr Carvers horses and trained elk shipped to Des Moines for the state fair, C and N W selling New York tickets during the Philadelphia encampment, St Marys music class resuming August 28 with a new teacher, and the school superintendent available next week 2 to 4 pm to place pupils in proper grades to avoid opening day delays.
A man about thirty claiming the name Thomas Watts from Byron caused a scene in Freeport yesterday afternoon. Police took him into custody, stored his team in a livery stable, and will hold him until relatives arrive. His parents live at Pine Creek near Mt. Morris.
Mrs Hess is sick and her young daughter of John Hess is ill. Giles Turneaure is laid up with malaria. Clinton Folgate fell from a tree this morning and injured himself internally.

A young man at a threshing outfit near New Milford was injured when a spark from a malfunctioning separator ignited wood, causing the machine to fail and the man to fall into the cylinder. A spike penetrated his windpipe. he is alive but in great pain, with little hope of recovery.
