Special dispatch from Washington states General Root has ordered the 27th 31st and 84th volunteers to proceed to San Francisco and from there to Manila when transports are provided.
Chief Root and his constables announce an unusually quiet town during circus day with no reported pickpocket incidents. Three youths faced Magistrate Lane for copper theft at Gordon Vinegar Factory, and another man stood trial for stealing a copper boiler.
At the last meeting John A. Davis post formed a committee auxiliary to Phil Sheridan post Chicago to aid G A R national encampment travelers. They will arrange sleeper berths and limited private-family board, with advance applications required. Z T Ronner serves as committee chairman.

Hiller is ill and is at St. Francis hospital for treatment. Miss Maggie Stahl, who has been sick for the past six months in St. Francis hospital, is visiting at the home of Mrs. G. R. Rummel.
The pastor Charles H Holden will begin a course of sermons next Sunday evening on the subject Hell. Topics include Is there a hell What kind of place is it Who will go there How long will they stay and How to avoid going there.

Charles Wascher a patrol wagon driver assaulted a man then arrested him after a day of trouble. The incident began at Western brewery where a prior dispute escalated into a confrontation with an uppercut. Later Wascher and his son pursued the man to a saloon and beat him while another man restrained him. Friends intervened to stop further harm. The report calls for strict discipline and removal of Wascher’s star.

Miss Gertrude Hea was surprised by friends in costume who danced in a barn at Dr. J. F. Fair home. The Friday night cinch club drew a large crowd for a grand march and cake walk followed by luncheon. Prizes went to Boyd P. Hill and Mrs. Jas. R. Cowley.

Dr Burwell, Freeport health officer, warned the Ringling show tent vendors not to make or sell lemonade in tin vessels. He cited widespread use of tartaric acid in circus lemonade, which corrodes tin and can create poisonous mixtures. The warning follows recent poisonings in Oregon, Dr Burwell said he acted to protect locals.
An employee named David Klaas at a Tyrone Wisconsin saw mill operated by Wim Bayles was fatally injured when he slipped feeding a large circular saw last Tuesday. His right arm was severed and his side gashed exposing internal organs. He died after 24 hours of agony. He leaves an aged mother and three brothers. funeral held at Tyrone yesterday.
A sewing machine raffle will be held at 89 Galena Street to raise funds for an artificial limb for Oscar Pote, a boy who lost a leg climbing into a buggy. His family struggles and he earns a living selling papers, appealing for public generosity in Freeport.
The Lena camp meeting train will now depart at 8:30 Sunday morning instead of 8. The change updates attendees on the revised schedule for the trip to the Lena gathering.
The people of Lena are making extensive arrangements for the annual Stephenson county Soldiers reunion to be held in Lena early in September. George Roush, president of the association, was here Friday conferring with Freeport veterans regarding the coming reunion.
Harvey Keister, longtime Tyrone resident, died at his home Tuesday morning. He moved from Rock Grove to Oneco and finally Tyrone, Wisconsin, after arriving in 1852. He was 74 and is survived by a wife and three children.
The Baptist pastor Holden will open a series of Sunday evening sermons on Hell inviting all interested or doubtful about its existence to attend. He will sing a solo tomorrow night and the event is open to everyone in the community.
