Rudolph Fullhweiler, arrested in Wausau on the charge of murdering 16 year old Jennie Riehle, confessed before Judge Marchetti after waiving preliminary examination. He admits rape and murder and refused witnesses. The crime near Stratford is cited as one of Marathon county’s most brutal.
In St Paul on August 6 Judge Vandeventer of the United States circuit court issued a temporary restraining order stopping the Arkansas secretary of state from forfeiting the Chicago Rock Island and Pacific railroad’s right to do business in the state. The Arkansas legislature had enacted a rule that any corporation suing an Arkansas citizen in federal court or removing a state suit to federal court would forfeit its business rights here. A Arkansas citizen had sued the Rock Island in state court and the railroad moved the case to federal court, prompting the forfeiture action. The injunction holds the matter in abeyance while the secretary of state’s authority is resolved.
Secretary of Agriculture Wilson arrived in Portland and is ill at his hotel. He declines to see anyone as his son Jasper says the trip from Puget Sound caused a severe cold and a restless night.
