Horrible Fate of an Engineer Near Shamokin
Two men were killed and one fatally injured in a freight wreck on the Philadelphia and Reading railroad six miles west of Shamokin. Engineer Michael Smock burned beneath wreckage as a carload of gun powder on the siding prevented rescue until an explosion. Conductor Alexander Smith also died.
