The new Kent county board of supervisors elected Supervisor Sam Taylor as chairman. He named committees on Finance, County Accounts, Poor and Poor Farm, Sheriff's Accounts, Real Estate Equalization, Bene Property, Public Buildings, Assessments and Taxes, County Superintendent accounts, Roads and Bridges, and Purchasing. Supervisor Dickes noted Company L will depart for the war and proposed a county contribution of one third of a $175 farewell banquet. motion passed. The meeting adjourned until tomorrow at 10 o'clock. a janitor for the court house will be chosen Thursday.

The Spanish steamer Monserrat was captured today by the U S cruiser Mangrove. It carried 1 000 men and 500 000 dollars in silver aboard. The Panama, a Spanish vessel lately leaving New York with refugees and supplies, was also captured and towed into Key West. It is said to carry about 500 000 silver dollars.

Through attorney Hon. M. Stoskopf Stewart B McCall has filed for divorce from wife Alice T McCall in Stephenson county circuit court after a separation. It is understood Mrs McCall acknowledges the charges and will not oppose the divorce.
Henry Nessler was the sole recruit to join Major Lohr's company today while many more are anticipated to sign tomorrow.
