The district attorney contended the commonwealth had proven the conspiracy and the judge refused to take the case from the jury. Quay's counsel let the case proceed to the jury and the district attorney began opening arguments.
A large crowd gathered at Westminster Abbey for the marriage of Lady Margaret Primose, youngest daughter of the Earl Rosebery, to Earl Crew. The ceremony was brilliant with several royal family members in attendance and a large nobility turnout.
Havana April 20 Special Gen. Brooke will distribute 3,000,000 to Cuban soldiers aiming to treat officers as soldiers and gentlemen. Any Cuban named on the lists identified by his captain will receive his share.

A bloody Highbinder factional war erupted in Fresno Chinatown early today. Three were killed, two wounded, and nine people were jailed as rival Highbinder organizations clashed. Local authorities tightened security.
In Canon on April 20 the defense questioned the state's witnesses in the George murder trial. Witnesses alleged to be addicted to opium or morphine testified about the night of the crime, including the darkness surrounding the incident.
Elgin ministers win approval for a curfew by a two to one vote. Minor under 16 found on streets after 9 pm from April to November or after 8 30 pm otherwise may be arrested and fined $10. If parents refuse responsibility, city action proceeds. Ordinance becomes effective ten days after its April 27 council adoption.

John Gilbert, native of London, died at noon at his Homer street home from apoplexy. He would have been 71 in June. Survived by wife Eliza Whitely, four children William N Dixon John A and Albert L and Mrs E A Bowers, plus sixteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren. One sister Sarah Tintle of Brooklyn also survives. Funeral plans pending.
