Quay Defense Seeks Not Guilty Ruling in Conspiracy Case

In Puitapenpuia Pennsylvania on April 20 the Quay defense moved to withdraw the case from the jury and demand a verdict of not guilty arguing the state failed to prove conspiracy. The district attorney contended the commonwealth had proven the conspiracy and the judge refused to take the case from the jury. Quay's counsel let the case proceed to the jury and the district attorney began opening arguments.

Death of John Gilbert Veteran Tanner at Home

John Gilbert, native of London, died at noon at his Homer street home from apoplexy. He would have been 71 in June. Survived by wife Eliza Whitely, four children William N Dixon John A and Albert L and Mrs E A Bowers, plus sixteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren. One sister Sarah Tintle of Brooklyn also survives. Funeral plans pending.
