Fire devastates wealthy New York district. Eleven dead

A massive morning blaze swept through East 67th Street and 69th Street in New York, destroying the Wallace C. Andrews residence and the Adams home. Eleven lives are known lost with several servants missing or dying. Firefighters battled flames until 6 pm. bodies of Mrs. St. John and her son Wallace were recovered, as were others in the upper floors.

Death in West Madison store prompts homicide probe

The body of Geo. B. Fern was found in his West Madison Street store this morning with a bullet wound to the head. The cash drawer was rifled and Fern’s pockets were turned inside out, suggesting a violent robbery.

Tug Wilson Frightfully Wounded by Exploding Gun

Tug Wilson, a well known local char, was seriously injured when a gun exploded while he hunted ducks near the iron bridge on the Madison Central line. The blast shattered his nose, cut his left eye, and knocked him down as Bert Horton and Cal Kramer rushed to aid him.

Injured man carried to hospital after assault

A man named Wilson received severe wounds and was carried to the Burdett organ factory, where police were summoned and he was taken to Dr. Poling's office for dressing. He is now under care at St. Francis hospital.
