William Mullarkey a Lena Illinois Central track walker was killed by passenger train No. 402 about 9:30 am one mile east of Lena while inspecting repairs with a motor car. He turned to move the speeder but was struck by the engine. he died instantly. The coroner Dr. W B Peck ordered an inquest for tomorrow. Survived by wife and nine children. cousin Henry Silk at Lena. Engineer Payne and Fireman Dewherst assisted on the engine, Conductor Ward in charge.

Fred Weneger died at the county farm last evening at 8 o'clock from injuries allegedly caused by William Steineke after an incident at the Hotel Metropole two weeks prior. Weneger, born in 1854 in Switzerland, emigrated at age 12 and lived in Atchison, Rochester NY, married in 1888, moved to Monroe, Wisconsin twelve years ago, and for years worked as a cheese-maker. He resided in Winslow for the past year and is survived by a wife, three children, and two brothers in Monroe.

Hawke, a contractor and former alderman, Palmer a well known Freeport resident and former supporter, and Deemer an Illinois Central employee, are seen as capable stewards who will give county duties careful attention. The outcome depends on strong Republican turnout across ten precincts.
Habeas corpus proceedings begun before Judge Heard by John A Wohlford seeking release of Hazel Woblford a three year old daughter of the petitioner from Mr and Mrs Jacob Burkhardt of Silver Creek. The petitioner alleges the Burkhards refused to surrender the child despite promises to return upon request and that the child’s father had allowed limited custody previously.
