Political letter and protest from Newburgh Life Guards
A 1840s era letter from Benjamin Taton, one of the surviving Life Guards of George Washington, urges voters to back Gen Harrison and warns against a standing army in peacetime. The piece also reports British surveys on Lake Champlain and public sentiment in the West, with Horatian editorial commentary on tariffs and politics.
