Located in the Delaware Water Gap region East Stroudsburg State Normal School provides regular normal courses plus music elocution art drawing watercolor and a full college preparatory department. Free tuition is available to students meeting the state law requirements with a warning that the policy may be repealed by the next Legislature.
As the twentieth week of the strike begins, miners firm on their demands face a wide regional stalemate. Relief efforts progress, while railroad workers from Ashley to Pittston plan to resist handling non union coal, with 600 members meeting in Kingston and urging a visit by P H Morrissey to Wilkes Barre. Mitchell in New York notes possible Wilkes Barre move, promising no talks with operators. Output estimates vary. most coal now shipped is washed product from western Schuylkill, Shamokin, Lehigh, Panther Creek, Lackawanna regions, with multiple collieries operating intermittently.
As hunting season nears we publish a concise roundup of state game laws. No hunting or shooting on Sundays. Penalty 25 dollars. Nest or egg destruction forbidden except for strictly scientific purposes with a game commissioner certificate, penalty 10 dollars. Killing game birds or animals prohibited unless a gun is shouldered, penalty 25 dollars. Two deer may be killed by one person during November, penalty 100 dollars. Running deer with dogs prohibited. No more than ten pheasants or fifteen quail or two wild turkeys killed in one day, penalty 50 dollars. Squirrels: gray, back, and fox in fall season. red or pine not protected. Pheasants, wild turkeys, quail, woodcock allowed Oct 15 to Dec 15, penalty 25 per bird. Rabbits allowed Nov 1 to Dec 15, penalty 10. Sale of pheasant, quail, woodcock, wild turkey, and deer prohibited. other state game sale allowed within state. Prosecutions by any person. one-half penalties to informer. All prosecutions within one year of offense.

City officials deny rumors that the Allentown fair is postponed due to smallpox. Only six cases in the past year and none currently exist, vouched by Mayor Fred E. Lewis Health Officer A W Hendricks and Dr J D Christman of the board of health.
Mrs. Lawrence Farley died this morning at her Mountain House home near Milnesville. She leaves husband and daughter Miss Mollie Herron, brother John Brislin Crifton, and sisters Mrs John McCole Freeland and Mrs Edward Gallagher Allentown. Funeral plans pending. James Sheridan of Park View also died from typhoid fever, the fourth in his family since last March.
Miss Mabel VanHorn aged 16 was abducted after Park M. E. church services by a man and a woman. She was gagged, placed in a wagon, taken toward Sandy Run and held in a gypsy tent until morning. She was later released and walked to Freeland, then returned home to her parents. The family and constable searched for her abductors without results.
Two weeks yield town notes on disease among dogs and a rash of mining issues. Canines died or were euthanized as officials speculate unknown illness. several residents listed as owners. Coal pickers jailed after fines and warnings following a Coxe Bros. mine cave in near Drifton.
The Democrats of Monroe Carbon and Pike counties nominate James M Mulhearn of Lansford for state senate amid a 2500 Democratic majority. Independent Democrat T M Dullard declares candidacy citing unfair treatment at the recent Democratic convention. Socialist ticket lists J W Slayton and J Mahlon Sarnes among others. Freeland sees candidates Charles Jacquot and Thomas Evans for county commissioner. Fred C Kirkendall elected county treasurer chairman with E J Moore as secretary.
The remains of John W. Davis were buried at Freeland cemetery after services led by Rev. Langford at the English Baptist church with Silver Wave Lodge in attendance. Mrs. Hugh Kelly's funeral was from her home with a requiem mass at St. Ann's. John Sherwinke’s burial followed arrival from Retreat Friday, with services at St. Peter and Pauls and interment at Freeland cemetery. The Crescents second team beat Jeddo 5 to 0 yesterday.
