Local advertisement urging men to trade in worn clothing for better fitting garments. John Shigo at 144 South Centre Street offers suits for men boys and children plus hats boots shoes and furnishings. Ladies shoes highlighted with dress goods and notions, prices stated as fair.
Owen Fowler editor and publisher of the Semi-Weekly Progress died at 5 50 am at his home on North Centre street. He was born May 29 1859 at Lightstreet Columbia County and aged 43 years 5 months 13 days. He built Freeland newspaper reputation from 1881 founding the Progress after stints at Danville Hazleton and other papers. Survived by wife Nettle Sherman son Howard S mother and siblings with funeral set for Saturday at 2 pm at his residence.
Negotiations completed through National Board Member P G Gallagher and Superintendent Thomas Righter pave the way for resumption at Silver Brook and Hazle Brook. Markle & Co and Coxe Bros Pardee remain out, with relief orders doubled and no signs of wavering.

The Palewicz murder trial over Deputy Sheriff Joseph Beddall’s death during a coal strike faced a juror panel dominated by mine workers. With only ten jurors seated, a new venue was ordered, and Sheriff Beddall, brother of the slain man, faced objections. Coroner Dr. A L Gillars then provided a fresh panel, yielding a non miner jury.
The cases of Peter Lenouskey and Victor Zorambo end with death by hanging for the February 11 murder of Anthony Sennick in Exeter shaft. Lenouskey plotted with Zorambo to kill Sennick, seize his $800, and flee with Sennick’s wife’s plan. Both men confessed, were found guilty, and await execution. The trial of five other men for Sweeney murder at Hanover proceeds with jury selection. Tomchek testified to seeing the others attack Sweeney.
August Horne pleaded guilty to being the ruin of his two young daughters and received a ten year term in the Western penitentiary. He is a 45 year old resident of Scale Siding Foster township. His daughters aged 14 and 15 are mothers of babies. Paul Hosier faced trial for criminal assault on the Horne girls. he was fined 25 dollars, ordered to pay costs, and sentenced to nine months in the county prison.
Several residents moved from Drifton and nearby areas. Patrick McCole left for Walnut street property, Patrick McGee to Hazleton, John Kelly's family moved from Washington street to Philadelphia, John Boyle and family relocated from Butler valley to Shafer property hill, and Andrew O Donnell with family moved from Highland to Wilkesbarre.
The will of John W. Davis probated in Freeland leaves his estate of 6000 to his wife Rachael for life with remaining share to their children.
