Not Guilty Acquittal in Wilkesbarre Beating Case
Jury acquitted Joseph Machutes of murder in the case stemming from the January 28 1902 beating of Stanley Moleski on Kapire street Wilkesbarre. Moleski died weeks later from injuries. dying declaration named Machutes as the killer. The verdict surprised both the commonwealth and defense counsel, who expected only manslaughter.
