Women Beaten at Drifton in Major Clash
A violent incident in Drifton at 10 o'clock left several Slavonian women injured as deputies clashed with strikers. Joseph Kovitch and George Markos were arrested after an altercation with non-union fireman Charles Roblands and a confrontation near the D S and S tracks. Mrs Petchel, Kovitch’s sister, was knocked to the ground, and other women were struck as guards dispersed the crowd. The prisoners were moved to trains toward Hazleton and Wilkes-Barre for hearings amid ongoing tension and inquiries.
