The Anthracite Coal Strike Commission heard testimony about night work by young girls in silk mills and hearings on child labor. John C. Haddock, Wilkes-Barre operator, defended mine practices and wage concerns while Samuel Gompers urged recognition of unions and cautioned against importing foreign workers.
County commissioners announce a public sale of seated and unseated lands for unpaid taxes on December 29. Properties in Buck Bear Creek Black Creek Butler Conyngham Dorrance Fairmount Foster Hanover Hazleton Hollenback Huntington Lake Pittston Ross Salem Sugarloaf Union Wright townships will be auctioned to the highest bidders. Buck township alone contains over 3000 acres. Deeds will be issued but many titles may be defective or over taxed with double assessments.
John Mitchell returned to Spring Valley Illinois to a town holiday with business paused for the labor leader. About 3000 unionists and citizens joined a parade from the train through main streets. Resolutions from Spring Valley citizens and Peru Trades and Labor Council were presented on a silver tray and an aluminum framed plaque. An evening gathering featured remarks from noted labor leaders.
Judge Heydt of Carbon County grants change of venue for the murder trial of coal and iron policemen Harry McElmoyle and George Bonemus in the Nesquehoning case. He suggests Lehigh County as the trial site while Associate Judge Embody dissents and Judge Williams awaits ruling. The request cites strong local prejudice against mine guards, arguing a fairtrial cannot occur in Carbon County.
Judge Halsey declared void the contract between Nanticoke borough council and People's Light and Power Company. Plaintiff John O. Davis claimed lack of Burgess Williams approval. The court orders consent or a new public lighting contract for approval.

The year’s total anthracite production will reach about 31,000,000 tons, far below 1901’s 53,500,000. November output is 4,984,354 tons, vs 4,697,329 in 1901. Eleven month total stands at 26,101,459, down from 49,945,148. Railroad shipment table lists Reading, Lehigh Valley, Jersey Central, and others.
Local fight between Darby Mc Donald of Mt Carmel and Charles Mulhall of Philadelphia was canceled after ministers and church groups organized mass meetings and planned legal action. Mulhall, who had arrived only hours before, left town. The bout, a fifteen round contest, was to be decided by decision, drawing large crowds and disappointment among spectators. Mulhall previously fought Kid Ferry at Allentown on August 17, 1901.

December 25 program under the Good Will Athletic Association at the Grand Opera House with admission 10 15 and 25 cents. December 31 marks the Tigers Athletic Club fourteenth annual ball at Krells hall with admission 50 cents.
