Interlaken FFA conducted an oat yield and straw study across three 2 acre plots planted Apr 20 Apr 27 and May 7 with a two day late last plot due to rain. Each plot used 400 pounds 0-25-25 and 110 pounds 33 1/2 percent ammonium nitrate plus 2/5 of a quarter 2AD. Costs to plow fit plant and combine were itemized and plowing took 1 3/4 hours with 6 gallons of gas.
The event at Harold F Miller Gymnasium in South Seneca School Ovid features a band from Ovid High School, ceremony led by Jack Kaney 4 H Council president, and pin awards presented by Warren Koehler. G William Niles and Margaret Bennett announce records and award details.
Searsburg Homemakers at Julia Rhode’s home on Oct 16 will sew Puff Pillows with Eleanora Arden guiding. Luncheon by Arden and Leona Davis. Interlaken Young Mothers meet Oct 10 at 8 p.m. Mary VanVleet hosts with Winnie Jones presenting Behind the Scenes in the Food Market. Plan to visit 4-H girls at Charlotte Swanson’s on Oct 24.
Elizabeth Boyer presented an illustrated talk Delight in Your Light for 35 parents guests and 4-H members at Mrs Gilbert Hohwald home October 4. Boyer a Seneca County and State Fair winner discussed six lamp types and a study lamp she made. Linda DeGraw Caywood Coquettes planned the program and introduced leaders.
Mayor Howard E. Jones of Interlaken New York proclaims the week of October 6 12 1968 as National 4 H Club Week in recognition of 4 H members families and their achievements. The proclamation notes 4 H clubs in Seneca County include about 2000 youths preparing to become future community and state leaders.
