Ovid residents will receive letters urging donations to fund a new emergency truck for the Ovid Fire Department. The current truck, 13 years old, cannot carry all equipment and the fund remains several thousand dollars short. Firefighters logged 60 calls and 1402 man hours plus 550 training hours in the past year.
United Appraisal Co of East Hartford begins field inspections in Ovid as part of the Seneca County Revaluation Program. Inspectors survey residential and commercial properties recording heating plumbing floors and conditions and request ownership details. Fieldcards verify inside and outside inspection while officials plan the eventual assessment percentage.
South Seneca Central School Board accepted the resignation of High School Principal G Douglas Van Benschoten for personal reasons and approved his move to a commercial teaching position. The letter of 32 teachers expressed surprise and sadness at his departure. Others resignations included Ron Munson, Robert Pless, Angela Muller, and leave granted for Margaret Goodwin due to ill health.
A Saturday ceremony dedicated a new Trumansburg Fire Station in honor of Stephen H. Craig, honoring his 63 years with the Trumansburg Volunteer Fire Co. Speakers included ex mayor Robert Newport and Mayor Peter Jager, with praise for Craig’s devotion to duty. Members, officials, and a marching band attended, and a flag ceremony preceded the music.
