Court upholds vacation time in public pensions
The Court of Appeals ruled public employees may include accrued vacation time in base income for pensions, citing a constitutional protection. The ruling does not apply to hires after April 1, and follows last year’s pension law. Comptroller Levitt reports a surge of retirement filings as workers fear reduced pensions. The decision rests on a rare constitutional provision shared with Florida.
