Varna Volunteer Fire Company Forms In 1953
The Varna community organized a volunteer fire company after a 1953 fire destroyed the old Varna Community Center. Carl James donated a tank truck, funds surpassed $3,000 with support from Cornell University GLI and area fire groups, and seventy five residents backed the effort. The group planned committees, purchased equipment, and activated the truck in June with a field day planned to celebrate.
