Higbie Home Damaged by Fire Interlaken NY
Interlaken fire officials responded to a Friday blaze at the Higbie farm home on Kelleys Corners Rd in Covert. The two story frame house suffered extensive damage to the kitchen and downstairs flooring. The Higbies and their 14 month old escaped unharmed though two cats died. Fire crews faced straw insulation catching fire while fighting the flames. The cause was linked to a welding torch used to thaw pipes and possible overheated wiring. The residence was deemed uninhabitable and the family planned to stay with neighbors.
