New Law Expands Eligibility for Civil Service Annuity Increases
Public Law 93-136 signed by President Nixon on October 24 1973 liberalizes eligibility for cost of living annuities payable to retiring employees or widows or widowers. The law guarantees an immediate annuity no less than the pre increase amount and sets two computations to determine the larger. It also limits benefits for service beyond the cutoff date and outlines inclusion of COL increases to maintain purchasing power.
