Fredericksburg High School gains 11 units of affiliation in vocational agriculture from the State Department of Education Austin. First year these courses offered locally. Teacher Harper Rawlings praised for results. Fourteen students from tenth and eleventh grades enrolled.
The Baccalaureate services for the Fredericksburg High School graduating class will be held at the High School Auditorium on Sunday night May 21. The program includes Prelude by Miss Blanche Baker Invocation by Rev. R Gammenthaier Scripture reading by Rev. R Gammenthaier solo Hold Thou My Hand by Mrs Theophil Haag choral singing by the PTA Club sermon by Dr King Vivion Southwestern University processional by PTA Choral Club and benediction by Dr King Vivion followed by doxology.
Llano man Dick Wimberley, 42, father of ten, is charged with murder after Francis Porch, 32, was shot three times in an alley between Congress Avenue and Brazos Street in Austin. Wimberley says the shooting was justified. bond set at $3000, he had not posted. Porch died at Brackenridge Hospital. inquest by Justice J M Griffith. body sent to Llano for burial.
Governor Miriam A. Ferguson signed a Texas redistricting measure to create 21 congressional seats replacing 18. The Senate previously passed a proposal altering district groupings, moving Liberty County to the Seventh district, shifting Kaufman County to the Seventh, and transferring Panola County from the Third to the Second.
Mr Charles Milliger of United Telephone Company spent Wednesday in Fredericksburg. Mrs August Juenke faces an appendix operation. Mrs Oliver Kowert and Miss Esther Lenz have tonsil procedures. Families from San Antonio and Austin visited relatives here and in Fredericksburg. Mrs August Juenke died Thursday at a local hospital. funeral plans not yet reported.
The Beckmann Funeral Home nears completion and will offer modern conveniences comparable to city homes. Harry Hartmann passed the State Board Embalming Exam in Galveston, joining the staff. A formal opening will be announced soon.
The infant son of Walter Wunderlich and Edna Gerhard died at Fredericksburg Sanitarium after a brief illness. Born April 26 1932, he passed away May 12 likely due to heart failure. Funeral held May 13 at City Cemetery with Pastor A Koerner officiating.
Mr and Mrs Joachim Hahn marked their golden wedding anniversary with a Saturday church service at First Methodist Church and a reception at their Pleasant County home near Fredericksburg. The couple, in strong health, have three children Mrs Louis Marquardt Cain City Emil Hahn and Herman Hahn of Fredericksburg. The children arranged a program at the services featuring a wedding march, readings, hymns and an address on The Crowned Age by Rev R Gammenthaler.
Fredericksburg Giants were blanked 8 to 0 by the Cowboys at Llane Sunday in front of a shocked home crowd. Hari Van Huss dominated with strong pitching allowing only four singles as Hugo Klaerer struggled early with six hits in the first inning. Red Brown Berry and Shelby contributed in the Cowboys revamped lineup as they claimed victory and ended the Giants eight game win streak.
Texas Governor Miriam A Ferguson signed a resolution for a 20 million statewide relief bond to unlock federal unemployment aid. The measure, needing a constitutional amendment, will go to a special election on August 26 alongside other amendments. The ballot also includes 3.2 percent beer authority and delegates for a state prohibition repeal convention.
Mr and Mrs Ernst Weinheimer celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary with about ninety guests at a noon dinner and afternoon cake and lemonade. Cards and dominoes accompanied social time, with out of county guests from Comfort Blanco and families sending best wishes.
Miss Elizabeth Schoenewolf and Victor Schoenewolf and Walter Smith of Dallas spent the week end with Mr and Mrs Max Schoenewolf. A petition is being circulated requesting an election to determine whether live stock shall continue to run at large in Gillespie County.
Texas Senate highways committee voted seven to six to issue an adverse report on the administration backed bill creating an elective highway commission. The House had passed the measure, but the Senate may print a minority report to keep it alive. The bill, as introduced by Rep. John W. Laird, would let Gov. Miriam A. Ferguson name commissioners serving until the November 1934 general election, though the House altered it to take effect only after new commissioners are elected.
Fredericksburg High School holds commencement on Tuesday night May 23 in the school auditorium. The program includes processional by Max Wahrmund Jr., Alma Mater by the senior class, salutatory by R L Kott Jr., song by the Girls Glee Club, address by Lieutenant Governor Edgar E Witt, diplomas by H H Sagebieh, honors by Supt C W Feuge, valedictory by Melinda Striegler, and a farewell song Hail and Farewell by the Senior Class.
Raymond R. Rusche son of Mr and Mrs Adolf Rusche died Tuesday May 16 at 1 A M at the family home in Prairie Mountain Liano County after an illness of several months He was born August 19 1922 making him 10 years 8 months and 27 days old Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at Cherry Springs Lutheran Church with Rev R Becker officiating Interment followed at Cherry Springs Church Cemetery Surviving are his parents a sister Nora grandparents Mrs Otto Rusche and A W Kothe and numerous other relatives
The Meusevach Creek School plans a closing and barbecue on Saturday May 27. Goodyear tire line acquired by Oea Tire Plaza Service Station. Plaza Station now operates an authorized Goodyear dealership and aims to better serve customers.
The Gillespie County effort led by the Public School and St Marys School Auxiliary with Fredericksburg Lions Club reports 237 children immunized at St Josephs Hall and 17 at Harper for the first dose. Over 2 000 children have received immunizations in four years. The second and final dose will be offered at the same sites on Thursday June 1. The toxin anti toxin treatment yields lifelong immunity in about 95 percent of cases.
The Gebirgssaengerbund Mountain Singers Association meeting in Beethoven Home San Antonio decided the annual Saengerfest will be held in Fredericksburg in October. The group, in existence since 1881, is led by President Julius Real with F. J. Walch as secretary, and the Fredericksburg festival is under Arion Maennerehor. About 500 singers are expected to participate.
