Fortieth Saengerfest Held in Gillespie County
The fortieth annual Saengerfest of the Gillespie County Saengerbund was held at Peters Hall on Saturday night April 29 with eleven choirs taking part. Echo Male choir sponsored the program directed by R S Klett. Officers elected at the morning meeting were Benno Luckenbach President Max Kunz Vice president and O H Burgdorf Secretary Treasurer. The Forty first Saengerfest will be under Luckenbach Frohsinn. A parade opened the day at 2 p m and founders were introduced on stage along with original members from thirty years ago.

Flower Show Planned at Peters Hall by Garden Club
The Garden Club will hold a special meeting at Peters Hall to finalize arrangements for a Flower Show on May 10. Members and non members may exhibit pot plants and cut flowers. Virgil McPhail of the State Department of Agriculture will lead a round table discussion and Mrs. Cecil Cone Jr. will speak during the evening program on horticulture.

Deeper City Well Increases Water Output
City officials report the No 1 well drilled deeper over recent weeks now yields 150 gallons per minute, up 60 from before. The 90 foot well has reached 150 feet, with a third well underway near the first two to ensure ample supply.

Sunday night performance at Peter's Hall drew several hundred attendees. The play was well presented with well chosen actors who carried their parts to perfection and a beautifully decorated stage.

Crabapple Church Marks 50th Anniversary in Texas
Crabapple Church at Crabapple Texas celebrated the 50th anniversary of its congregation on Sunday April 30 1939. The community had Lutheran ministry as early as 1880 with Pastor M Haag serving the area from Cave Creek. The 1887 confirmation class included Gustav Rusche Louis Welgehausen Emma Schmidt Joanna Land Ida Otte and Sophie Sagebiel. The congregation organized April 22 1689 and joined the Synod of Texas on April 26 1890. The church was dedicated November 21 1897 as Gillespie County’s third Lutheran church. Pastors included Haag Ermisch Billnitzer Hannemann Flachmeier Hannemann Poehlmann.

St Marys Singers At San Antonio Folk Festival
The St Mary's Glee Club of St Marys High School with 35 girls directed by Sister Frances Joseph performed German songs at a folk song festival held on the campus of Our Lady of the Lake College in San Antonio. Miss Frances Ernst accompanied on piano. The program began Tuesday at 2 30 pm and included a post program picnic.

Forgery Artist Passes Five Checks Here
Merl Harlow about 24, last seen barefoot in McCullough County, is wanted by local officers and Fredericksburg merchants after a weekend spree in which he passed at least five forged checks. County Attorney Arthur Stehling says the forger began Saturday and continued Sunday, writing checks to various people for sheep shearing. He evaded one merchant who noticed an endorsement, then fled after another bank call.
